The Cannes Film Festival is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious film festivals. The festival is held annually in the resort town of Cannes, in the south of France. Cannes is one of the best known destinations in the French Riviera. Other than the popular film festival, the city is famous for its luxury shops, restaurants, and hotels. It will be held this year from May 12-23 and the President of the Jury of this year's festival is Director Tim Burton. If you plan on attending, make sure you have an invitation as this festival is private.

There are also various events associated with The Cannes Film Festival such as Marche du Film, Masterclasses, Tributes, Producers Network, & Exhibitions.
Many prestigious awards are given at the festival. The most prestigious and coveted is the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) for the best film. Other awards given during competition are Grand Prize of the Festival, Jury Prize, Best Short Film, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Screenplay. There are also other awards and prizes given during Other Sections and Independent Entities such as Camera d'Or for Best first feature film and Prix de la FIPRESCI for International Federation of Film Critics Prize.
